Chéz started her career in the Human Services Field as an Associate Professional catering to the mental health needs of children & adults in 2003. She developed a strong love for advocating for children and later became a Qualified Mental Health Professional specializing in children’s mental health. In 2010, she began to work with children placed in therapeutic foster care as their Foster Care Case Manager. Her wealth of knowledge in the mental health field led her to become a trainer of Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting-foster care training as well as a trainer of “Becoming a Therapeutic Foster Parent.” She has trained and licensed a plethora of foster parents through the North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services. In 2015, Chéz ended her career in the Human Services field to care for a loved ones estate.

In 2016, because of her love for children, Chéz signed up to be a substitute teacher for Clover District School and later in Gaston County School. Her fond spirit and expertise with working with children with mental disorders made her a highly sought after substitute filling in often as a long term substitute. Often in the halls of the school you will hear kids refer to her as “Mama Chéz” because of her ability to teach life lessons to students and always urging them to become their best self.

It brings her joy whenever she is asked to write a recommendation for one of her students. In fact, every student she’s written a recommendation letter they’ve either gotten into their program or received the scholarship in which they were applying for. Jokingly she expressed that she was their good luck charm, but in reality she is proud to have planted seeds within so many successful students in Gaston County and beyond.
